Preschool
This past year has been busy for our Preschool. Classes are held three mornings and four afternoons per week with a staff of four teachers, one music teacher, one director and an administrative assistant. We currently have 84 children enrolled. Our maximum enrollment is 110 children. Last year we had several families start in January and I expect this to happen again this year.
Regular activities include circle time, free playtime, language development, arts and crafts, story time, social interaction, large and small motor activities, snack time, library time, creative movement, and music. There are lots of learning opportunities and new friends made as we meet and visit with community helpers at the Howland Fire Station, pumpkin patch, Giant Eagle, farm, Wagon Trails, Mill Creek Park and YSU Planetarium. Other school activities include our Halloween party, Thanksgiving feast, Christmas party, Special Persons' Night, P.J. party, bowling day, Valentine's Day party and End of Year picnic. We offer GymsterDance and Kindermusik lessons between AM and PM sessions.
Our school continues to be self-supporting through tuition fees, registration fees, and fundraisers. The budget of approximately $86,000.00 is used for salaries, operating expenses, and a yearly donation of $12,000 to the Unified Budget of the church. Our preschool parents help support the food kitchen, holiday food baskets and the clothes closet.
Our preschool operates under a constitution sanctioned by the Official Board of the Church in 1969, with major decisions voted on by the Board of Directors all of whom are either members of or employed by Howland Community Church.
