Outreach/Mission Committee

The Outreach/Mission Committee, with the help of the congregation, tries to follow Christ’s admonition that we love one another and care for each other.  We show this love through our involvement in many different projects.

The gifts of the congregation are spread locally, regionally, nationally and globally to assist people with food, clothing, medicine, shoes, utilities, crisis intervention, housing, etc.

This year has been a busy year for the Outreach/Mission committee.  Our regular activities include providing monthly food bags, assisting with the clothes closet at Emmanuel Lutheran, providing shoes for children through Operation Shoeleather, checking blood pressures and serving a monthly Free Fellowship Meal at HCC.  We also regularly participate in such projects as the manning the Red Cross Blood Drives, and preparing Christmas baskets.  We assisted with ringing the Salvation Army bell at the Sam’s Club.  Our Client Choice Pantry provides food for a number of families twice a month. Howland Community Church has made a commitment to be a host congregation with the Family Promise of Mahoning Valley homeless program.  None of this would be possible without the generous support of the congregation, both financially and with participation.

Thank you to the congregation for their generous support in the special offerings that are taken throughout the year.  The Helping Hands Craft Show in November is an important fundraiser for the Mission work of the church.

In the year to come, the Outreach/Mission committee hopes to continue to involve more people in the hands on projects as well as continue to support organizations through our gifts.  We hope to bring a better awareness of the plights of humankind to the attention of those that can help and educate the congregation about the organizations we support.

There will be many opportunities for people to lend a hand in 2009 and the Outreach/Mission committee is always open to new opportunities to reach out.
